Song Book

I have to admit I am in love with the Song Book. :)
I'm not kidding I really love it!! It just amazes me, especially the chorus section..you know the tiny section at the back with the simple chorus's? Love, love, love it.
Like this one..

All my days and all my hours,
All my will and all my powers,
All the passion of my soul,
Not a fragment but the whole
Shall be thine, dear Lord,
Shall be thine, dear Lord.

So simple, yet so powerful.
I think that too often we just sing the words and don't really think about what we are singing. Unless you really mean them or are striving to live by them, why sing them??

Here are just some of the very powerful chorus's that have had an impact on my life.

All there is of me, Lord,
All there is of me,
Time and talents, day by day,
All I bring to thee;
All there is of me, Lord,
All there is of me,
On thine altar here I lay
All there is of me.

Spirit of the living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me;
Spirit of the living God,
Fall arfresh on me.

Where he leads me I will follow,
Where he leads me I will follow,
Where he leads me I will follow,
I'll go with him, with him, all the way.

I want to live right, that God may use me
At any time and anywhere:
I want to live right, that God may use me
At any time and anywhere.

This is God's moment, God's moment
for you;
A moment so solemn, yet joyous and new,
Forgiven is all sinning,
Real life is beginning,
For this is God's moment for you.

To be like Jesus!
This hope possesses me,
In every thought and deed,
This is my aim, my creed;
To be like Jesus!
This hope possesses me,
His spirit helping me,
Like him I'll be.

Keep on marching with a fighting faith,
Fighting faith, fighting faith,
Keep on marching with a fighting faith,
And win the world for Jesus.

Bless his name, he sets me free,
Bless his name, he sets me free,
O the blood, the precious blood,
I am trusting in the cleansing flood.
Bless his name, he sets me free,
Bless his name, he sets me free,
I know my sins are washed away,
And now in Jesus I am free.

Clear skies are above me,
Pure are the joys within,
Boundless the grace that keeps me
Free from the power of sin;
Walking each hour with Jesus,
Held by his mighty hand,
Pardoned, the past behind me,
Before, the Gloryland.

The world is needing us,
Christ is leading us;
Comrades, let us be true.
His love constraining us,
Prayer sustaining us,
Faith will carry us through.
His service calling us,
None appalling us,
Deeds of valor we'll do;
For souls are needing us,
Christ is leading us;
Comrades, we will be true.

    Allison, I couldn't agree with you more. I thought I was the only "youngin'" who loved the song book. One of my favorite choruses, even as simple as it may be is...
    #180
    "Jesus is All I need,
    Jesus is All I need,
    I'll follow Where He Leads,
    Jesus is All I need."

    The tune is haunting and and really drives the simplist point home. A man from our corps wrote this song (lyrics, tune, or both...not sure). I'll never forget it. Some days it plays over and over in my head. It's a good thing :-)

    Thanks for your post!!

    I like some of the classic hymns of the church. I love the words of our song book...I wish some of the tunes were more singable.

    My favorite song is number 42 in the songbook.. Check it out.

    This is my father's world,
    And to my listening ears,
    All nature sings and round me rings
    The music of the spheres.
    This is my father's world
    I rest me in the thought,
    of roccks and trees, of skies and seas;
    His hand the wonders wrought.

    This is my father's world,
    The nirds their carols raise,
    The morning light, the lily white,
    Declare their maker's praise.
    This is my father's world;
    He shines in all that's fair;
    In the rustling grass, I hear him pass,
    He speaks to me everywhere.

    This is my father's world;
    O let me ne'er forget
    That though the wrong seems oft so strong,
    God is the ruler yet.
    This is my father's world;
    The battle is not done,
    Jesus who died shall be satisfied,
    And earth and Heaven be one.

    I like the last verse! GOod stuff.

    I know what you mean about wishing there were more singable tunes. That's why I'm so grateful for The Singing Company, Transmission, Phil Laeger, and soon to be Doug Berry!!!!
